Studio Abreu is a Merida based design and build firm led by husband-wife team Fernando Abreu and Monica Starling. The firm offers a full range of architectural and construction services from conceptual planning and design to construction drawings, permitting services, budgeting and scheduling, project management and site supervision. House renovations in the downtown area now make up the majority of our projects.

House Remodel / Casa PabloThis project on 68 in Centro was a total transformation of an old building into a contemporary home, designed by Studio Abreu in collaboration with the canadian Architect Paul Rodham (the client) and built by Studio Abreu. One of the most special things about this project is the use of few and unique local materials such as pasta tile, stone, chukum, and even a brick and stone wall that was discovered during the construction process.
Terrace Addition / Casa 54For this project, we were asked to extend the existing terrace space to allow for more covered seating as the owners enjoy entertaining in their home. The biggest challenge was that we just had a month to finish the project, so we made a detailed schedule will all the activities that needed to be done in order to complete the project on time.
Terrace Remodel / Casa 82Our clients wanted to give their terrace a more welcoming ambience. To achieve this, we first replaced the concrete pavers with warm colored ceramic tiles combined with decorative talavera inserts (another advantage to the new flooring was its low maintenance). We then painted the back wall, provided accent lighting, and added a walkway between the pool and terrace.

Contemporary Home Design + Build |
Casa 71 |
The client of this project is a young family that asked us to design and build their home in phases so they could add spaces over time. The land had a small existing structure that we adapted for the kitchen and dining area. These photos show the first phase of construction, which includes a garage, kitchen/ dining area, bedroom, bathroom, pool, and a little casita in the back.
|
For this project we were asked to do a simple and functional house. Even though we had limited space we were able to achieve a comfortable distribution with a courtyard in the middle that the different spaces in the house look into, providing nice air flow throughout the house.

Robert Abuda Salon Makeup StandRobert Abuda Salon wanted to convert an area that was not being used into a makeup stand. A goal of the project was to take advantage of its place by the window to capture the attention of passers by on Paseo de Montejo. One challenge was working with sheetrock to give it a clean and elegant look, which we achieved by applying aluminum angles to its edges. Photos by: BDG Photo Video

Hotel Kay by All Riviera, Playa del Carmen |
Photo Collection: Terrace Remodels |
Hotel Kay was one of our first projects, and also one of our most challenging. We designed and supervised the construction of this 15 room / 5 rental space beachfront hotel. The biggest design challenge was to fit the large scope into a small lot, while giving each room a view of the beach.

We are often asked to make a home improvement on a smaller scale. Here are some photos of work we´ve done on terraces.
